Onwards and upwards

2007 continues unabated, and I am keeping busy. Went to York yesterday, and I had forgotten how much I like the place. A great combination of historical buildings and fab little shops. Out for a meal last night near Halifax which involved a main meal called 'best of British', which involved mini items eg a mini game pie, fishcake, salmon roll, ham shank with egg and puff pastry pie. Lovely! I turned down the pudding though as parsnip icecream did not appeal.

I've spent this morning being a mystery shopper for my German, ringing other driving schools to see what they charge and what discounts they give.

Here are some pretty flowers:

Happy New Year!

A happy New Year to one and all. I think it's time to make a few resolutions, and maybe by writing them here for others to read I might even stick to them! Here we go...

1. I shall attempt to eat a healthier diet and do some exercise.

2. I will start hillwalking again in February so as to be in shape for Easter this year.

3. I will make more effort to see old friends and try to get them to visit me (it is lovely up here in Yorkshire, do come and visit!).

4. I will take a holiday outside of the EU and get a stamp on my passport.

5. I will make my German go out and about with me as I think we need to explore the local area.

That'll do for now - if anyone has any others they feel that I should add then let me know!

Christmas hangover

Well, we all survived Christmas, and a reasonably good time was had by all. Pictures of unforced jollity below. I am now in the throes of a cold and am duly tired, miserable and sorry for myself. At least it should have gone by New Year's Eve.

January will be the month of abstinence and dieting, so I can fit into all the clothes I bought in the sales today!

Festive thoughts

Merry Christmas one and all!

I am relentlessly cheerful as the big day approaches, determined to have a good time no matter what. I've been fortunate to have never had a bad Christmas though, so that makes the day easier for me. My family can just about get along for the couple of days we are back together without too much in-fighting.

My German on the other hand is not a Christmas fan, and is being dragged to my Mum's house even though he would much rather be doing DIY work on his house. He's not sure he can remember having a good Christmas though, and when you don't have good memories of Christmases past the forced family jollity can grate I suppose

We have agreed a compromise whereby he will attempt to enjoy Christmas and I will try not to hate driving as much as I do (driving being something he enjoys and he cannot understand why I hate it).

Festive compromises!

My elderly car

Hurrah! My little car has passed its MOT with no work required! Not bad for a 15 year old Rover Metro. My German is allowing me to call him a clown this week as he (a trained mechanic)has been telling me for months that it would fail. We are keeping a look out for a new car for me, as I have decided I want an automatic. Very bored with having to change gear.

I am starting my second wave of Christmas card writing, dealing with all the people I forgot first time round or those whose addresses seem to have been mislaid. I also have an additional 20 cards to send for Midland Leg, which will keep me busy for the next few days. Anyone know when the last 2nd class posting day is?

Christmas in 20 days

I suppose I should buy some cards and stamps soon, shopping in Nottingham last week and enjoying a mug or two of Gluehwein put me in the festive mood and some pictures of the lights are below.

Saw the Bond film last night, not bad! I knew the girl wouldn't survive as soon as Bond said "I love you".

I was sent by my boss to Sheffield this morning with a colleague for a 20 minute meeting. It kept me out of the office all morning as we caught the train which was slow as usual. I got back to work at half one and to an email query from my boss as to why I hadn't got any work done - need to work on my being in two places at once. Ah, the joys of work. I keep reminding myself that they have to pay me to be there and that I wouldn't do it for free. Smartarse clients who know a tiny bit of law are also fun - spending half an hour explaining that it is their fault they have been charged interest by a developer because they did not send me the purchase funds in time is always a great use of my day. Maybe tomorrow will be better. At least the office is closed for the Christmas week so a respite is coming.
